Conservation Legacy Fellow

Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIPP in partnership with the Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) Program of the National Park Service are seeking an intern who will complete a fellowship with the RTCA’s Midwest Office.
 
   
Fellows will be exposed to the NPS RTCA National network of planners and community assistance professionals and may participate in training and conference opportunities that are available to Program staff such as facilitation skills, NPS training and webinars, and attending professional conferences. 

Position Responsibilities will include:
  • Coordinate with project partners to gather data from existing sources for planning documents, such as demographic data, state and county plans and policies, grant sources and requirement
  • Assist staff in data analysis, such as writing summaries of data, and creating alternative proposals for partner consideration.
  • Participate in community outreach activities, such as public events, committee meetings and community meetings.
  • Assist in writing and graphics creation for plans and applications.
  • Use ArcGIS to create maps for planning and analysis
  • Assist Midwest Regional RTCA staff in creating a Trails Workshop for NPS staff
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • Analysis and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of people
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Coursework or experience in community or transportation planning, landscape architecture, geography, public affairs, community studies, park planning or management, or related field
  • United States citizen or legal resident
  • Must have a valid driving license with an insurable record
 
 
 Preferred Qualifications:
  • Enrollment in or completion of a Master’s program in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with one or more of the following software programs is desirable: ArcGIS, InDesign, or Photoshop
 
Benefits:
  • Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $6,095(pre-tax).
  • Living Allowance: $510/week (pre-tax)
  • Housing is provided by the RTCA Program
