Resident Engineer - Consultant Projects

The role: 
As the resident engineer – consultant projects, you will be fully responsible for directing all activities necessary in the development of outsourced contracts for highly complex, highway construction projects and the contract administration of Oregon Transportation Commission approved construction contracts.

In this role, you will work as one of the organizational experts in the management of construction and consultant design contracts in the area of contract interpretation and contract management.

A day in the life:
  • Represent management in the development of outsourcing contracts for up to the most complex highway construction projects.
  • Participate as a member of the region’s management team for project delivery.
  • Lead the consultant selection processes.
  • Contract administration/project management responsibilities:
  • Manage the design.
  • Meet with contractor/consultants
  • Communicate with other state offices, local and other public agencies.
  • Communicate with other ODOT project managers.
  • Assure community input is obtained for the design and construction phases.
  • Manage preliminary engineering, construction authorizations and construction engineering budgets on each project.
  • Monitor work in progress and make adjustments to assignments or make workforce changes as needed to ensure the appropriate match of staff and projects.
Environment:
  • Work is conducted in both an office and field environment.
  • Work involves irregular hours (weekends, holidays, nights and to travel for job related purposes).
  • Frequent travel required to local and remote construction sites, which may involve exposure to traffic and noise hazards and hazardous terrain.

What we need:
A valid professional engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering and three (3) years of journey level professional engineer experience.

NOTE: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration in Oregon within six months of hire.

  • Experience managing multiple transportation projects from preliminary design through construction.
  • Experience developing and delivering design packages for transportation engineering projects.
  • Experience negotiating and/or administering complex contracts for architectural/engineering services.
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with stakeholders
  • Experience in coordinating and managing project timelines, budget and scope.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge and experience in the areas of contract development and consultant management.
  • Multi-modal transportation engineering experience.
