Food Safety Laboratory Scientist

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

As the Food Safety Laboratory Scientist, you will be responsible for the execution of fundamental R&D experiments focused on food safety and microbiology, guided by the directives of our innovative R&D team. To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:

  • Perform routine food safety/microbiological testing following established protocols and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures for laboratory equipment and methodologies and perform literature reviews.
  • Document results of testing following a technical report format.
  • Effectively communicate, per audience, the data and results of microbiological testing.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain microbiological testing equipment, to include supplies and microorganisms.
  • Maintain the lab in compliance with Safe Foods housekeeping and safety standards.
  • Ability to culture microorganisms in a laboratory setting, and effectively plate serial dilutions.
  • Ability to set up, maintain, and repair laboratory equipment.
  • Complete special projects assigned by supervision.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

     

YOUR MUST HAVES: 

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Microbiology, Animal Science, Poultry Science, or Food Science from an accredited University
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Attention to detail and a keen sense of observation
  • Motivation to solve complex problems and troubleshoot abnormal data
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to set-up, maintain and repair laboratory equipment
  • Ability to culture microorganisms in a laboratory setting, and effectively plate serial dilutions
  • Must be highly motivated, self-starter with the ability to work alone, and as a functioning member of a team

 

OUR ENVIRONMENT:

Working conditions include an equal balance of laboratory work and an office setting. Laboratory work will include handling raw food products (poultry, beef, pork), physical exertion (bending, lifting, shaking) during experimentation, and exposure to microorganisms and pathogens.
