Accounting Business Analyst

Under supervision of the Enterprise System Administrator (ESA), this position will perform internal accounting control functions to ensure that sound fiscal management and control of Department operations are maintained as well as administering, supporting, maintaining, customizing, training and documenting updates for the organization’s Oracle Cloud Fusion Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. 

Examples of Work

The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.

  • Write SQL database queries and reports using business intelligence and other software tools.
  • Balance accounts against internal accounting controls.
  • Validate accuracy of reports created in Oracle ERP
  • Compile specific data from ledgers or other reports.
  • Verify compiled data figures and totals to internal accounting controls.
  • Prepare journal entries as necessary.
  • Ensure the accuracy of Division and District monthly budgets and correlation of their reports to budget and expenditure reports.
  • Maintain a complete working knowledge of all Department accounting functions.
  • Assist with support issues surrounding the Oracle Cloud Fusion ERP system.
  • Determine business needs and make system related recommendations that best fit the requirements.
  • Assist in reviewing and auditing end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Test and troubleshoot new system releases and plans for future requirements.
  • Maintain and update user manuals and system documentation.
  • Conduct periodic system related training for users.

Minimum Requirements

Education and experience: The educational equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, computer science, business, information technology, or related field. Experience in accounting, finance, database management, or related field. 

Knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of accounting principles, procedures and methods. Ability to establish and apply accounting principles and methods to compile, analyze and interpret information. Ability to interpret and apply Department policies and procedures. Good communication skills. Attention to detail. Knowledge of analytics utilizing Business Intelligence reporting or similar tools. Knowledge of database technology including development of database queries and customization. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new software technologies. Ability to follow detailed procedures and ensure accuracy in documentation and data. Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.

Working conditions: Office environment. Occasional travel to various locations within the state.

Licenses, registrations and certifications: Valid driver's license.
