Manufacturing Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:

Support the manufacturing operations in the assigned area by planning the practices of manufacturing, researching and developing the tools, processes, machines and equipment required and integrating the facilities and systems for producing quality parts with optimal expenditure. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define methods, work place layout, special tools, jigs and fixtures, standard hand tooling, material flow and operation flow charts for assigned areas.
  • Design, specify, purchase and/or fabricate special tooling, assembly fixtures and transport fixtures, including appropriation requests for the areas assigned.
  • Prototype development for products transferred from other plants; for all new or redesigned products; and for the coordination of all related activities required for production startup on the pilot lot and initial production lot for the assigned areas.
  • Prepare, release and maintain general and special operator instructions related to equipment, processes and methods affecting products manufactured in the areas assigned
  • Provide the foreman with technical and administrative assistance on floor problems related to methods, tooling, equipment, material and instructions for the areas assigned.
  • Implement and coordinate special projects defined by the annual capital plant and/or routine process or production problems.
  • Review all change notices affecting the area assigned and coordinating the changes with staff and line functions to ensure that the change is implemented properly.  Coordinate all changes affecting methods, processes, equipment, tooling and miscellaneous procedures with the I.E. Supervisor and other industrial engineering personnel whose area of responsibility will be affected by the change.
  • Achieve that portion of the departmental cost reduction quota assigned
  • Routinely monitor shop personnel and equipment operation to ensure that the prescribed methods and procedures are being followed and take immediate, corrective actions when improper methods and operations are observed in the areas assigned.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing engineering records of sufficient detail to support the M.E. activities related to the areas assigned.
  • Submit a weekly activity report on specific projects relating to the above.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four (4) year college degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years experience preferred
  • Previous employment in a manufacturing environment
