Dispatcher/System Operator

BASIC FUNCTION: Monitor and keep accurate records of system operations for Conway Corp’s electrical distribution system utilizing OMS (Outage Management Software), to quickly identify issues, coordinate with field teams to resolve system faults, address emergencies, and track distribution system performance. Assist in implementing strategies such as emergency load shed, support planned maintenance activities, and effectively communicate Conway Corp’s operational activity with internal and external stakeholders. Provide technical assistance to users of Conway Corp video, voice, security, electrical, water, and wastewater services. Monitor the grounds and buildings surveillance systems and notify proper authorities of security problems when necessary.

 

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Answers, evaluates, prioritizes, and enters incoming telephone or other reports of system outages into the OMS. 
  2. Interviews customers to collect information about reported issues, resolving issues tactfully and expeditiously within the policies and procedures of the Corporation. 
  3. Operates radio, computer, and telephone equipment for the purpose of receiving, sending, and relaying information pertinent to maintaining effective internal and external operational/maintenance communications. 
  4. Prepares electronic work orders and notifies the on-duty serviceman or crew via telephone, radio, or electronic media. 
  5. Prepares and distributes reports on status of ongoing outages to department managers and/or their designees.
  6. Monitors SCADA systems and notifies the appropriate personnel of any disruptions
  7. Monitors buildings and grounds surveillance systems noting any unusual occurrences and contacting authorities as necessary. Monitor alarm systems for any variances to the norm.
  8. Consults with department managers regarding; outages, operation, and maintenance requirements, and contributes to long and short-range maintenance planning.
  9. Assists in the preparation of written standard operating procedures. 
  10. Assists in maintaining detailed maps of utility infrastructure relaying changes to the appropriate personnel.

 

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; plus
  • 7 - 11 months of related work experience or training
  • Or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

OTHER: 

  • Strong customer service skills, including courteous telephone etiquette, face-to-face professionalism; and the ability to exhibit patience and empathy under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Experience and knowledge of crew operations, substations, feeders, and utility distribution and transmission system a plus.
  • Working knowledge of modern Windows systems, the Internet, including Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, and mail programs and ability to use job-specific computer software.
  • Must be able to work non-scheduled, non-traditional hours when needed, and be subject to call-out in case of emergency or trouble.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as part of a rotating shift schedule.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Must live within a 30-minute response time of the intersection of Harkrider and Oak Streets in Conway.
