Award Specialist I - Award Management Office

Summary of Job Duties:

The Award Specialist I will work with Departmental Representatives, Principal Investigators (PIs), Research Accountants, Award Management Team Leads and External Sponsors to manage the lifecycle of research awards.

Award Specialists will perform a variety of analytical activities to ensure compliance with various accounting principles, sponsor requirements, federal and state guidelines, and institutional policies. They will also perform account financial reconciliation for assigned departments constituencies, monitoring of sponsored award spending for allowability and compliance with federal and sponsor regulations, managing payroll and sponsored project effort, preparation of required financial and accounting reports to sponsors, sponsored project financial and non-financial closeout according to Institutional policy and good accounting practices and institutional audit engagement and response. In addition, they will interprets award terms/conditions, Federal, non-federal, and University financial/administrative policies and keep up-to-date on sponsor requirements, institutional policies, and state and federal regulations.


Qualifications:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, general business, or related field

At least three years of experience in a related field


Preferred Qualifications:

Intermediate proficiency and experience with Microsoft Excel and Word

Experience with grants and contracts

Experience with the University of Arkansas systems

Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills

Demonstrated strong organizational skills


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and GMP

Knowledge of financial statements and reports

Knowledge of accounting ledgers and journals

Knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer technology related to accounting systems

Clear communication skills using face-to-face contact, e-mail, telephone or other correspondence

Strong organizational skills

Ability to meet deadlines

Ability to develop and maintain manual or computerized accounting systems

Ability to interpret and apply provisions of laws, rules, or policies to specific situations

Ability to review and analyze financial information

Ability to analyze data and prepare financial statements and reports

Ability to maintain routine accounting data in appropriate ledgers and journals

Ability to provide guidance and technical assistance to agency/institution management and staff


Additional Information:


Salary Information:

$57,000-$65,000 - Commensurate with education and experience
