Check Adjustment Specialist (CHECK012415)

The Check Adjustment Specialist reviews foreign currency deposits, suspicious check activity, and collection items. This position is responsible for correcting processing errors on customer accounts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Researches and makes adjustments to errors or cases involving cash tickets, deposits, GL tickets, and checks. This duty is performed daily, about 20% of the time.
2. Facilitates purchases and exchanges of foreign currency. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.
3. Processes and reviews all collection items. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.
4. Reviews Canadian Items and processes exceptions or fees. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.
5. Supports branches by finding solutions to processing errors and answering deposit-related questions. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.
6. Reconciles and adjusts internal accounts. This duty is performed daily, about 20% of the time.
7. Submits bank-to-bank cases for chargebacks and follow-ups regularly. This duty is performed monthly, about 10% of the time.
8. Ensures outstanding items are processed in a timely manner. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.
9. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
10. Completes required BSA/AML training and other compliance training as assigned.
11. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Knowledge of a specialized field (however acquired), such as basic accounting, computer, etc. Equivalent of four years in high school, plus night, trade extension, or correspondence school specialized training, equal to two years of college, plus 2 years related experience and/or training, and 1 to 6 months related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

- Two (2) years of related experience and/or training
- Six (6) months of experience working with Bankway/Image Center preferred
- Six (6) months of retail/back-office banking experience preferred
